Kojima and Konami Fallout

  The End of Silent Hills?

As I’m sure anyone who keeps an eye on the world of gaming has heard, Kojima Productions and Gaming giant Konami are rumored to have had a bit of a falling out recently.

These rumors surfaced after it became apparent that Hideo Kojima's name had been removed from all promotional materials for Metal Gear Solid 5 and his name was additionally removed from the listings for Konami's corporate officers.

For fans of the Metal Gear series this came as a worrisome issue, not just about the upcoming Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain but also about the continuation of the series as a whole. However, according to statements released by both Konami officials and Kojima himself, the newest game in the series will indeed carry on as planned with Kojima stating

"I want to reassure fans that I am 100 percent involved and will continue working on Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain; I'm determined to make it the greatest game I’ve directed to date. Don't miss it!”
Konami have also made it clear that despite Kojima Productions leaving the side of Konami by the end of the year the Metal Gear series will continue, the official statement on their website saying;

“Konami Digital Entertainment Co., Ltd. will continue to develop and distribute top-quality content in the METAL GEAR series following ‘MGSV: TPP.’ We greatly anticipate and deeply appreciate your ongoing support for METAL GEAR.”

And even go as far as to say that,

“As the next step in the series, KONAMI has already resolved to develop a new ‘METAL GEAR’ title.”

 It is currently unknown what caused the tiff between the two companies but according to Gamespot the result is that Kojima Productions employee’s statuses at Konami have been changed to “contract employees” putting their future at the company at risk. Many believe that the splitting of the two companies could be a severe mistake on Konami’s part.

 Kojima is one of the most well-respected directors in the business and it would be a great loss to any company to lose such talent for good. It also puts highly anticipated game Silent Hills into a status of possible disposure as Kojima is the lead director of the game.

Neither he nor Konami have yet to make it clear whether the game will still be released or not with the release date being after Kojima Productions is likely to split away from Konami.
