Lightning Appears in Louis Vuitton's 2016 Spring-Summer Collection

It has been revealed the heroine of the popular Final Fantasy series will appear in Louis Vuitton's global campaign for its 2016 Spring-Summer collection.

It seems that when Lightning isn't running around saving the world in the popular Final Fantasy series, or hanging out with literal Gods, she's been immersing herself in the high fashion industry. Lightning is defying her often cold personality by surrounding herself with something a little bit warmer - Louis Vuitton's Spring and Summer collection for 2016.

“It’s clear that the virtual aesthetic of video games is predominant in this collection."

The collaboration between Square Enix's Lightning and fashion Goliath Louis Vuitton has come about to have the character model the women's wear line 'Series 4.' Lightning will appear sporting items from the collection in magazine advertisements and on promotional videos.

Louis Vuttion’s Artistic Director of Women's collections, Nicolas Ghesquière, stated "If we push the reflection about heroines, or what might constitute the nature of a woman whose actions can be so courageous that she becomes superior and iconic, it becomes obvious that a virtual entity integrates with the founding principles of the Maison."

"Lightning is the perfect avatar for a global, heroic woman and for a world where social networks and communications are now seamlessly woven into our life."

The empowerment of women through the use of heroines is a brilliant move for Louis Vuitton in an age where awareness of women's issues and representation is often somewhat problematic. Specifically in the videogame industry we have seen our fair share of objectification in female characters and Lightning is just the character to front a campaign set on the empowerment of women.

"It is a great honor that the character herself received an offer from a world famous brand"
Tetsuya Nomura, the character designer of Lightning stated that Louis Vuitton fully produced Lightnings poses. Speaking on the collaboration he said, "This collaboration is not just a promotion of a game, and it is a great honor that the character herself received an offer from a world famous brand. As a result of this collaboration, this has infused new breath into the character, Lightning.”

As the Series 4 collection is expected in 2016, so is the latest addition to the Final Fantasy series - Final Fantasy XV. You can read the details of its release right here.
