Thief Movie In The Works
A Thief Movie Is In The Works

It has been announced by Square Enix that a Los Angeles-based film production company has acquired the film rights to the popular stealth game, Thief.

The announcement made by Square Enix and Eidos Montreal revealed that the LA company Straight Up Films has acquired the rights to the game franchise for the silver screen. The film will employ the talents of both Roy Lee (How to Train Your Dragon, Lego Movie Sequel) and Adrian Askarieh (Hitman, Hitman: Agent 47.) David Anfossi, Head of Studio, Eidos-Montréal had this to say about the prospect of a movie adaptation of Thief:

“We have always been passionate about telling stories and bringing them to different mediums. With the intricate world of THIEF being made into a feature film, a larger audience will be able to dive into this universe”
Thief made its debut in 1998 and saw a reboot in 2014 for next generation consoles. The game which plays like a gritty and dark Robin Hood, would make an interesting on screen experience. However the proof is in the pudding with a video-game tie-in movie, so all bets are off for now.
